2002 Porsche 911 after two-stage paint correction and Borograph 2.0 ceramic — Standard Paint Protection Honolulu

This 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera came in carrying 24 years of Hawaii life on its black paint. Water spotting across the rear quarters and glass. Swirl marks and fine scratches through the front end — front bumper, hood, fenders — the low-hanging surface that takes everything the road throws at you. The owner, CJ, wasn't chasing perfection. He wanted the car restored to where it should be, then sealed properly so it stayed that way.

That's exactly the kind of brief we work well with.

The Condition It Came In

Black paint is unforgiving. Every swirl, water spot, and micro-scratch that would be invisible on silver or white shows up clearly on black under direct light. On a 24-year-old car that's been driven and enjoyed — not wrapped in cotton — you expect to find all of it.

The front end had the heaviest concentration of defects. The bumper, hood, and fenders on a low 911 sit right in the impact zone for road debris and grit thrown up at low speed — parking lots, driveways, surface streets. The rear quarters had visible water spotting from years of mineral-rich water sitting on the paint and etching into the clear coat. The glass — windshield, rear, and side — had significant water spot buildup that was scattering light and reducing clarity.

The Process

We don't skip steps on a paint correction job. The prep work before the machine polisher ever touches the paint is what separates a lasting result from one that fails in six months. Here's exactly how this one ran:

  1. Snow foam pre-wash Full foam application to loosen and lift surface contamination before any contact with the paint. Allowed to dwell, then rinsed thoroughly top-down.
  2. Iron remover Iron removing agent applied across all painted surfaces and glass to dissolve bonded iron particles — brake dust, road fallout — that accumulate in the paint over years of driving. On a 24-year-old car, there was plenty to pull out.
  3. Clay bar decontamination Full clay bar treatment with lubricant to remove above-surface contamination — anything the iron remover didn't address. The paint surface needs to be as clean as possible before polishing begins.
  4. Water spot removal Dedicated water spot treatment on the rear quarters and glass where mineral etching had gone deep enough that it needed targeted chemical treatment before mechanical correction.
  5. 2-stage DA machine polish Two-stage correction using a dual-action machine polisher — a cutting stage to remove defects, followed by a finishing stage to refine the surface and maximize gloss. Working panel by panel across the entire vehicle, with extra attention on the front end where the defects were heaviest.

The goal wasn't a concours finish. A 24-year-old daily driver with real history in its paint isn't a candidate for a paint thickness-depleting, three-stage aggressive cut. The goal was to remove what was removable, improve the surface dramatically, and leave enough clear coat thickness to protect the paint for years to come. That's the honest approach on a car this age.

Glass Before & After

The glass was as significant a transformation as the paint. Years of water spot buildup on the windshield and rear glass had created a haze that scattered light and was particularly noticeable at night. Water spot removal on glass requires a different approach than paint — we treat glass separately, with appropriate chemistry and technique for the surface.

Protection: Borograph 2.0

Once the correction was complete and the paint surface was as clean and refined as it was going to get, CJ chose Borograph 2.0 by NanoPro as his protection layer. For a 24-year-old car that he's not planning to sell — he wants to keep and enjoy it — a lifetime ceramic coating made more sense than a time-limited product that needs renewal.

Borograph 2.0 — NanoPro

  • Lifetime warranty
  • 180° water contact angle — extreme hydrophobic behavior
  • 98%+ gloss retention
  • CARFAX registered warranty
  • Annual inspection required to maintain warranty

Borograph 2.0 goes on over the corrected paint and cures into an optically clear, extremely hydrophobic ceramic layer. Water doesn't bead on this coating — it rolls off in sheets. On black paint, the depth and gloss improvement after Borograph is immediately visible. The paint looks wet even when it's dry.

For a vehicle that will be driven and occasionally detailed, the water behavior alone changes maintenance significantly. Contamination doesn't bond the way it does to bare clear coat, washes are faster and safer, and the paint stays cleaner longer between washes.

The Result

Twenty-four years of accumulated wear, addressed. The front end is significantly cleaner. The glass is optically clear again. The black paint — under Borograph 2.0 — has the kind of depth that black should have and rarely does without serious attention.

"Called my work — of an artist like."

That's the job. Not every car needs to be perfect. Every car deserves to be treated right.
